We Prevent Abuse…….Imagine you are in your senior years and involuntarily removed from your home due to being physically abused by your son who lives with you. You are moved to an assisted living facility where you continue to be abused by your son who is allowed to visit you. Who protects you if you have no other relatives who live nearby? CareSource does! In this real life client story, when CareSource was called in, we took legal action to prevent the abuser from contacting or visiting his mother without CareSource's close supervision. Thanks to CareSource, she was able to safely move back home with restored dignity and respect. Guardianship and Protective Services is the longest running and most successful of our three programs. If an individual is legally incapacitated, has no advance directives, and is non-compliant with the necessary assistance to provide for their well-being, then guardianship may be the only alternative to keep him or her safe. Guardianship is a legal intervention that includes crisis stabilization, intense case management, advocacy, care supervision and financial services. This unusual and rarely replicated program fills the "GAPS" left by other social service agencies in the South Florida community.
Because guardianship removes a person's rights, it is used only as a last resort, to protect the most vulnerable of individuals. Guardians step in when:
- Families disagree
- There are no family members to assist with health, financial or personal matters
- Property and assets must be protected and managed
- An individual is vulnerable for exploitation
| CareSource guardians are respected for their professionalism, integrity and experience. Our principal guardians are also distinguished as educators for the state-mandated Professional Guardian training courses. CareSource has trained more than 2,000 guardians, helped develop the Professional Guardian Competency exam, and offers the only 250 hour Guardian Internship Program in South Florida. |
